When I was younger, I was plagued with many moments of anxiety where it almost crippled me fro being able to interact with others, facing situations that were simple and limited my ability to build relationships with others. Through the years I’ve met many great people who influenced my life in positive ways and through them I learned how to help reduce and overcome my anxiety.

How to Overcome Anxiety and Make The Best Of It

Self-discipline can help you learn how to control your emotions. Once you gain some control over your emotions, you can also gain more control over anxiety. Below are some ways I will share with you that you can simply apply to your life to help overcome anxiety and make the best of it.

3 Ways to Overcome Anxiety

1. Positive Thoughts and Affirmations
Always think about the good things going on in your life. Schedule a time in the morning and evening where you will list and review positive thoughts and affirmations. Some people have stressful thoughts built up and no way to release them. Unload all of the “stuff” in your mind into a diary or journal; it frees up your brain to think of things in the present, you are more able to think about what is happening in the present instead of thinking of future and past events that lead to anxiety.

Have someone you can talk about issues that are troubling you. A support system can do wonders for resolving your anxiety. Find someone that you could trust when talking about your anxieties. Voicing your thoughts helps to minimize the effect they have on you and diminish their power.

2. Small Goals and Quick Wins
Make small goals for yourself and try to achieve them. This can also help you focus on your day and reduce negative thoughts or anxiety. This is also a good way to have more important and constructive thoughts. Have a planner and schedule some time to review your goals and meet the ones that you can right away. For example, how to overcome anxiety regarding a maxed out email inbox can be simply tackled. Dedicate one distraction-free hour to organize, file and clear out emails, tend to the ones that require immediate actions and once the hour is done, move onto something else. A quick and easy win!

3. Have a Balanced Lifestyle of Health
A diet that is balanced contains all the vitamins and nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Do not spend an excessive amount of time sitting around. If you sit a lot at work, try exercising or moving when on your breaks. When at home, remain active but schedule a time to relax and rest. Within an hour, dedicate 10 minutes to this exercise of getting up and taking a break.

Overcome Anxiety and Live a Better Life

The number one thing you need to do is find out what triggers it when it happens. Take note of what starts your anxious feelings and name it. Naming it helps you understand what is causing your anxiety, and this helps you understand and determine how to overcome anxiety in a better way.
Avoid people who cause your anxiety symptoms to increase. It may be an obvious tip, but a lot of people that have anxiety don’t want to make people angry so they keep them around. Being around people who make you uncomfortable would only cause you unnecessary stress and worsen your anxiety.

Creating a routine and positive habits will help keep your anxiety at bay. A structured day with productivity can do wonders and give you a sense of accomplishment which in turn will increase your positive thinking and affirmations.
